Nursing jobs in Lausanne
Vaud combines university medicine with a growing clinic and home-care market along Lake Geneva. Lausanne is hiring at every nursing level — from emergency departments to psychiatric care. Given solid French, conditions are among the most attractive in French-speaking Switzerland.
Look beyond university medicine: the canton runs a cantonal network of CMS (home-care centres, Vaud's Spitex), plus EMS (nursing homes), regional hospitals and private clinics between La Côte and the Riviera. In the parapublic sector — the publicly co-funded institutions — a collective agreement sets pay. What you negotiate there is not the headline figure but how many of your years get recognised on entry.

Frequent questions
What does a nurse earn in canton Vaud?
The Swiss bands apply: CHF 6,000–6,400 gross per month (×13) at entry, CHF 6,500–7,500 with experience, CHF 7,300–8,500 with a specialisation (ICU, ER, anaesthesia). In the parapublic sector your function class and the years recognised on entry set the exact figure; night and weekend allowances come on top. FaGe/ASSC: CHF 4,500–6,000 gross (×13) by experience.
I trained as a nurse abroad — what do I need for Vaud?
Two things: Swiss Red Cross (SRK) recognition of your diploma with NAREG registration — up to four months from a complete dossier, CHF 1,000 at most — and a permit: B if you move to the canton, G if you commute in from France. Then French: employers generally expect B2 or better for patient contact. We tell you upfront whether your profile carries.
Do I have to live in Lausanne to work there?
No. Morges, Vevey and Yverdon are under 30 minutes away by regional train, and the m2 metro stops at the university hospital itself. Rents fall the further you live from the lakeshore. Check your entitlement to the Vaud health-insurance premium subsidy as well — the income thresholds are adjusted regularly.
