Working in this field

Why a clinic?

Time for people

Stays last weeks. You build relationships and see progress that, in an acute hospital, happens after discharge.

Real interprofessional work

Nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychotherapy sit at the same table and plan together.

Predictable days

Fewer emergencies, structured routines, rotas planned ahead – easy to combine with family and further training.

Typical roles

  • Registered nurse (HF/FH)
  • FaGe
  • Psychiatric nurse
  • Physiotherapist
  • Occupational therapist
  • Psychiatry resident

What a day looks like

A day in a clinic

  1. 1

    Report

A calm start: what changed overnight, which goals are on this week.

  2. 2

    Supporting therapies

Between physio, occupational therapy and talks, you support patients in everyday tasks – independence is the goal.

  3. 3

    Interprofessional meeting

The team discusses progress and adjusts goals. Your view from the ward is wanted.

  4. 4

    Discharge planning

Where next – home, with home care, to a care home? You help make the transition a good one.

Frequent questions

Is clinic work calmer than an acute hospital?

More predictable, not necessarily calmer. Routines are more structured and emergencies rarer, but the relationship with patients over a longer period is at the centre – demanding both professionally and personally.

Do I need extra training for psychiatry?

No, you can start as a registered nurse (HF/FH) or FaGe. Many clinics offer internal induction and later further training, for example in psychiatric nursing.

Are there part-time roles in clinics?

Yes, workloads between 60 and 90% are common, and many clinics plan shifts early. We tell you which clinics work with which models.
